My 3rd Great Grandfather James O’Dowd was born 1-24-1822 in Sligo County, Ireland. He married his wife Alice Grace Gilmore (b.1821) in 1844 in Ireland. They came to America through Boston and lived in Salem, MA for 2 years before moving to Illinois in 1850. In 1870 they moved to Niles, Iowa, where they bought land and became farmers. James and Alice lived there until their death and are buried in Calvary Cemetery in Charles City, Iowa. |
